The New York Yankees just fought back a significant challenge from the Boston Red Sox, but ended up accruing three wins in two days. Fairly successful! Pretty good start to the week!

Now, it’s up to the Yanks to actually hold their playoff spot, which is the most important part of the playoff spot.

It’ll be difficult, with a four-game set on the horizon against Oakland that could dictate the team’s priorities entering September. Before they can look ahead to the Coliseum, though, they’ll need to dispatch of a Twins team they’ve traditionally owned — but also one that’s sneaky hot and currently basking in the joy of three walk-offs in four days.

It’s always tough to handicap a once-struggling road team’s momentum, but let’s try.

The last time we saw the Twins, the whole world was laughing at Gerrit Cole’s sticky stuff and Aroldis Chapman had begun his descent into madness against Nelson Cruz.

This time? The AL playoff picture’s been upended, and it’s up to the Yanks to continue their charge against an old foe.

Yankees vs Twins Odds Today

According to our friends at WynnBET, the Yankees are -275 (bet $275 to win $100) on the run line, and the Twins check in at +225 (bet $100 to win $225). Pretty overwhelming favorite, those Yankees are, and we’re not sure we can get behind it, based on Minnesota’s recent surge.

The spread is Yanks -2.5, and they’re at +110 to cover it; the Twins check in at -130. The over/under’s set at 10.5; the over is -105, and the under’s -116.

Yankees Pitcher Today

The Bombers will send Jameson Taillon (7-4, 3.89 ERA) to the mound to continue the team’s recent momentum (12 of 13 series, six straight victories). He’ll oppose new Twins acquisition John Gant (4-6, 3.49 ERA), who’s an unfortunate double whammy of A) very good and B) the guy who Minnesota got for JA Happ. This could’ve been a Happ start at the stadium! Dang.

Yankees Starting Lineup

Hell of a top five in the order, folks!

Yankees vs Twins Prediction Today

The Yankees typically dispose of the Twins like a playoff-bound fly, but…they’re not going to win forever, and Gant’s the toughest arm they’ll face in this series.

Still, we’re going to make a bold proclamation and say the magic continues, though it’ll be closer and more annoying than you want it to be. With a rested Chad Green and Jonathan Loaisiga behind him, Taillon beats the Twins 4-3.
