How…did the 2021 New York Yankees…just pull that off?!

The job is not done. Far from it. But one month ago, there’s no way the Yankees win either half of Tuesday’s doubleheader, let alone sweep it.

Luckily for fans of the heroes and not supporters of villains like Alex Cora, potentially 30 different bounces went New York’s way in the first two games of this set, both of which lasted just seven innings.

The Wandy Peralta knockdown throw. The Jonathan Loaisiga bases-loaded jam, the exact situation that’s gone awry for the Yanks 100 times this season. The Joey Gallo throw. The Andrew Velazquez single. The Luke Voit laser throw to third! Lots of good things, very few bad things, plenty of hairy situations.

The bullpen’s also obviously been burned; Chad Green and Jonathan Loaisiga will be unavailable, meaning…Zack Britton will shoulder the load after begging out of doing so. Joely Rodriguez will be there, too. Could get bleak.

The New York Yankees have already accomplished a fairly significant mission in this series, and the worst they can do is end the set tied with Boston in the loss column.
