OK, let’s try this again.
The New York Yankees came out as flat as can be on Monday night (are we really surprised at this point??) in their first home game since general manager Brian Cashman made his headline-grabbing trade deadline acquisitions.
They were no-hit through five against Orioles pitcher Jorge Lopez, who had a 6.19 ERA coming into the game. In the end, the Bombers scored one run (on a sacrifice foul out from Anthony Rizzo) and registered three hits in the 7-1 loss.
Andrew Heaney’s debut in pinstripes was … bad. As expected. He’s a below-average fly ball pitcher tasked with keeping the ball in the yard at Yankee Stadium?! Who signed off on this?
Fans were hoping for another clean sweep against an inferior team after they handled business against the Miami Marlins.
Now, everyone will be hoping for a series win in the form of two straight victories … one of which will no longer feature ace Gerrit Cole, who’s out after testing positive for COVID. Fun.
Anyway, let’s check out Tuesday’s betting preview.

Yankees vs Orioles Odds Today
We’ve got the Yanks as heavy favorites tonight, again, coming in at -275 on the moneyline (bet $275 to win $100) with the Orioles at +210 (bet $100 to win $210). Might the run line interest you if you’re uncomfortable laying that much money down on the Bombers? The Yankees are -1.5 runs (they need to win by two runs or more) and that’s good for -130 (bet $130 to win $100) while the Orioles are +1.5 at +110 (bet $110 to win $104).
The over/under is 9.5, so if you think this game will feature 10 or more total runs scored, go ahead and take of the over at -120 (bet $120 to win $100). If you think we’ll see nine runs or fewer, then the under at -105 is more your speed (bet $105 to win $100).
Yankees Pitcher Today
Tonight’s pitching matchup will feature top prospect Luis Gil, who’s filling in for Cole, and O’s left-hander Alexander Wells (5.28 ERA in four games). Neither of these guys are full-time starters.
This will be Gil’s MLB debut in a game that was originally supposed to be started by Nestor Cortes Jr. Gil has an upper-90s fastball that he joins with a sweeping slider and an underdeveloped changeup, so we’ll see how he fares in his first big-league action after he registered a 4.13 ERA and 1.34 WHIP in 15 starts between Double-A and Triple-A this year.
As for Wells, he’s been used as a starter in his last two appearances, going up against the Rays and Tigers. The O’s lost both of those contests after he allowed four runs in five innings against Detroit and three runs in 5.2 innings against Tampa. Perhaps the Yankees can take advantage of the fact he’s allowed three home runs in his last 10.2 innings of work.

Stay tuned for the release!
Yankees vs Orioles Prediction Today
The Yankees simply cannot drop two in a row to arguably the worst team in baseball. They’re 6-5 against the O’s this year, which is flat-out unacceptable. They have 8 games remaining against Baltimore, and they better hope seven of them end up being victories because they cannot end up anywhere near .500 against this team in 2021.
We won’t predict a blowout again, because the Yankees can’t score, so let’s go with a 4-1 Bombers victory with a fully rested bullpen ready to be deployed.

Yankees must move DJ LeMahieu down in lineup after all-time stinker
New York Yankees infielder DJ LeMahieu has been largely awful this season, and can no longer lead off if the Yankees are serious.
