The new series opener between the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox will take place on Friday night after Thursday’s contest was postponed due to a COVID-19 outbreak that will see the Bombers without Aaron Judge, Gio Urshela, Wandy Peralta, Kyle Higashioka, Nestor Cortes Jr. and Jonathan Loaisiga for a little while.

Great. Just what the doctor ordered for a fresh start to the second half of the season.

The Yankees are in big, big trouble. And some of the blown games they’ve lived through this season certainly would be a significant boost at the moment.

Aroldis Chapman really couldn’t have shut the door on the Minnesota Twins and New York Mets or protect a four-run lead against the LA Angels? The Bombers really couldn’t have preserved a five-run lead over the Astros last Sunday? Doesn’t 50-39 sound A LOT better than 46-43?

But here we are. The Yankees are dealing with a SECOND COVID-19 outbreak despite being one of the first teams to reach the 85% vaccination threshold. That’s just the way 2021 is going, we guess.

Anyway, ESPN has reported the weekend series vs the Red Sox will resume, though we’re unsure if there will be a doubleheader on any of those days given the current situation. For now, let’s take a look at tonight’s betting preview to see if there’s any hope of a Yankees victory.

What Channel is the Yankees Game on Today?

Friday’s series opener will be broadcast on the YES Network for those in the New York/Tri-State area and NESN for those in New England.

Yankees vs Red Sox Odds Today

Here we go! Our favorite part. The Yankees are -116 on the moneyline — to win the game outright — which means you’d have to bet $116 to win $100. They’re considered the “favorite” but it’s a razor thin difference. The Sox come in at -105 on the moneyline ($105 to win $100).

As for the run line and over/under, here are the numbers:

  • Red Sox -1.5 (meaning they have to win the game by two runs or more) at +150 (bet $100 to win $150.
  • Yankees +1.5 (meaning they can lose by one run or win the game) at -180 (bet $180 to win $100.
  • The over/under is 9.5 runs, with the over at -116 ($116 to win $100) and the under at -105 ($105 to win $100).

Yankees vs Red Sox Pitching Matchup

The Red Sox will stick with Eduardo Rodriguez on the mound (6-5, 5.52, but heating up lately). And Domingo German? Consider yourself skipped. The Yanks are rolling with Jordan Montgomery (3-4, 4.16 ERA).

You’d THINK the Yankees’ right-heavy lineup would take advantage of a lefty in Rodriguez, but who knows! Without Aaron Judge and Gio Urshela, that’s now an even taller task.

Yankees Starting Lineup

Stay tuned! The lineup should drop soon.

Yankees vs Red Sox Prediction Today

The Yankees’ backs are against the wall. They are missing six players. Can’t say we’re confident. And the Red Sox are 7-0 in their last seven against us. Seems like it’ll be 8-0 after Friday night, with Gerrit Cole and Jameson Taillon to follow this weekend, hopefully. The Sox will take this one 6-2, but the Bombers should rebound this weekend.
