The New York Yankees powered their way to a 12-1 victory to open their mid-week series against the Seattle Mariners. A much-needed win backed by a sterling outing from Jameson Taillon and a barrage of home runs. What a relief. This is the version of the Yankees we’re expecting more often than four times a month.

The biggest problem with the Bombers in 2021 is maintaining consistency and/or building off of promising performances. They’ll be tested yet again on Wednesday night when they go up against M’s right-hander Yusei Kikuchi.

But time is running out. There are five games left before the All-Star break and the Bombers need as many wins as possible to climb back into the AL East race and convince general manager Brian Cashman to buy at the trade deadline.

That means there’s no better time for them to notch their third straight win and capture the series as early as possible.

Yankees vs Mariners Pitching Matchup

It’ll be Nick Nelson (filling in last second after Domingo German was scratched) vs Yusei Kikuchi (6-3 with a 3.18 ERA and 1.03 WHIP through 15 starts). Kikuchi was named an AL All-Star who has nine quality starts in his last 11 outings. Nelson, on the other hand, has mostly been a reliever in 2021 (started one game, relieved eight) and owns a very bacd 9.75 ERA and 1.92 WHIP.

Yankees vs Mariners Prediction Today

Prediction?! You want us to PREDICT what the YANKEES will do?! How is that possible?! Well, let’s remain optimistic, because that’s the kind of energy we need over the next three weeks. The Bombers scored a season-high 12 runs on Tuesday night and got their best outing from Taillon. Can the train keep rolling? Let’s see a solid start from German with the offense propping him up early for a close 6-4 victory.

That’ll really put pressure on the M’s with Jordan Montgomery slated to pitch on Thursday.
