Yankees Game Today: Yankees vs Royals Prediction, Odds, Pitching Matchup, Starting Lineup
Didn’t see this coming last week: this Yankees–Royals series should be innnnnnteresting, timing-wise.
One week ago, the Bombers were languishing around .500 after being destroyed by the Phillies, living through their remarkable third consecutive winless weekend. The Royals were midway through another losing streak, marking a downward slop in their roller-coaster, veteran-laden season.
Starting Tuesday, these teams will face off in a three-game set just prior to a weekend Yankees-Red Sox series, and they’re currently situated in very different places. KC just took two-of-three from Boston over the weekend, looking relatively great while doing so. The Yanks? 5-1 week, sweep in Buffalo, and a series win against an Oakland team with the best record in the AL.
And in Game 1, we’re going to see Gerrit Cole going through his first-ever TSA check for stickiness. Game on.

Yankees vs Royals Odds Today
Watch this space — we’ll update with the odds on Tuesday when they’re available.
Yankees vs Royals Pitching Matchup
Gerrit Cole will toe the rubber for the Bombers, and he’ll be making his first official start under the guise of the league’s new foreign substance rules. He’s already rebuked Josh Donaldson and beaten the Blue Jays without ’em, but here come the annoying official checks. Brady Singer, top prospect, goes for the Royals.
Yankees Starting Lineup
Good news: Luke Voit’s back!
Bad news: Cole truly can’t survive without Kyle friggin’ Higashioka, who needs to start hitting again.
Yankees vs Royals Prediction Today
Both teams are entering hot, but only one can leave. New York is stuck with Michael King and Jameson Taillon in Games 2 and 3, so they’ll enter the opener knowing they need to secure a win. Cole might look a bit unnerved, but we’ll predict a 6-3 victory here. Kansas City shouldn’t be slept on, even without Andrew Benintendi. They didn’t enter 2021 to lose ballgames.
