Sick and tired of watching uninspiring, boring New York Yankees baseball?

How about following the personal lives of former Yankees? Oh that’s not going well either? We guess even tertiary subjects surrounding the team can’t catch a break.

Months ago, it was reported Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez were calling it quits after four years together. They had been engaged for two of them and had to call off their wedding (twice!) due to the pandemic.

The two refuted those initial rumors, stating they were just “working through some things,” but now it’s official after they revealed they’re calling off their engagement in a statement to The Today Show.

Man, so many fans thought they’d make it. They spoke glowingly about one another in interviews and talked about how they were constantly working together to grow and evolve, but now they’ve determined they’re “better as friends.”

But, of course, this was not devoid of controversy. When the rumors of the split surfaced weeks back, so did speculation of infidelity. Some gossip outlets reported that A-Rod had “formed a close relationship” with “Southern Charm” star Madison LeCroy. She addressed those rumors and said they were “just friends” while a source from A-Rod’s camp claimed the former baseball star “doesn’t know who she is.”

It sure seems a bit fishy.

But A-Rod is going through it right now. Poor guy.

We’ve all been there…

At the time of the previous rumors, A-Rod was in Miami preparing for the 2021 MLB season and gearing up for his broadcasting gigs with ESPN and FOX while Lopez was filming her next movie in the Dominican Republic, so there was a bit of a delayed response to all of this.

Here’s their official statement that was shared on Thursday:

"“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so. We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have is to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”"

And to think they were fairly close to buying the New York Mets not too long ago. That surely would have made for a messy ownership, but at least fans can take solace in the fact that this is amicable (for as much as we know) and that they’ll remain in one another’s lives.
