Blake Snell took a shot at the Rays on his way out and Yankees fans will love it.
While New York Yankees fans have largely been fretting about what the team will do this offseason, they thankfully got a gift from the Tampa Bay Rays when it was reported on Monday that they’d be trading Blake Snell to the San Diego Padres.
No more Morton? No more Snell? Some key bullpen pieces gone? We’ll take it!
Though some might’ve enjoyed Snell in the AL East because the Yankees typically crushed him and he added some fun fire to the rivalry between the two teams, it’s probably best that he’s gone and jawing elsewhere, especially in the National League where we probably won’t hear from him again.
But we’ll certainly take more of this! When the trade became official on Tuesday, Snell spoke to reporters and very clearly took a shot at his former team.
Oh yes, remember there was absolutely no tension between Snell and the Rays organization when he was removed from Game 6 of the World Series in the sixth inning when he was absolutely steamrolling the Dodgers only to watch his team lose because of the awful decision? Remember when Snell reportedly caught wind of the trade rumors and said he’d like to remain with the Rays?
The left-hander took all of that speculative talk and tossed it down the garbage chute. It’s clear he couldn’t be happier to be out of baseball’s version of Westworld. The Rays scripting games with their pitching staff clearly held him back. He’s only pitched into the seventh inning 13 times out his 108 career starts!
Yup, he’s ready for a fresh new start.
Yankees fans, rejoice. Snell will now be on the West Coast, hopefully seeing his potential maximized as he wears down the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. We’ll need it, too, because the defending champs appear to be the Bombers’ biggest threat to capture the World Series.
We’ll take any and all future shots at the Rays as well. Keep ’em coming, Blake.
Yankees truly blew it after details of Padres-Cubs Yu Darvish trade surface
The Yankees badly need a No. 2 starter, and after seeing the return for Yu Darvish in the Padres-Cubs trade, it's clear New York blew it.
