Yankees fans are going to love the latest Luke Voit trade buzz
Remember those Luke Voit trade rumors? Yeah, seems like the Yankees aren’t keen on that.
Life is better with Luke Voit, right Yankees fans? You’d be hard-pressed to find a New York fan out there who doesn’t like the high-energy slugger, which is why everyone was rubbed the wrong way when trade rumors surrounding 2020’s home run champion started to make their rounds right when the Bombers’ season ended.
Yanks Go Yard wrote about it solely because it was a topic worth discussing, but by no means was the notion supported. Sure, Voit’s trade value is at an all-time high, but that’s not a surefire excuse to get rid of someone. The Yankees are a few minor additions (and maybe a single major one) away from getting back to the World Series. A blockbuster trade to shuffle the roster when there’s no immediate void to fill is hardly the answer.
So if you were looking for some anti-Voit trade chatter, you’ve come to the right place! It appears such speculation was never really under consideration.
When asked about the chances of a Voit trade, here’s what MLB.com’s Bryan Hoch said in his recent mailbag:
“That has been suggested in a few media reports, proposing that the Yankees could cash in on a breakout season in which Luke Voit led the Majors in home runs to obtain a starting pitcher. At this point, that idea does not seem to have generated real traction in the front office. Those around the team believe that Voit’s 2020 performance was real and can be replicated in ’21 and beyond, especially his power and ability to drive the ball to all fields.”
Yeah, you’re not going to find many better first basemen. And Voit’s arguably the most cost-effective one out there. He’s not even in his arbitration years yet.
Yankees fans even loved him in 2019 when he was struggling, because it was later revealed he was battling an injury that required core muscle surgery. And you can bet nobody will forget about the “foot stuff” — that’ll be attached to the big man for the remainder of his career. He fought through that and put forth an MVP-like campaign, even though he ended up getting screwed in the voting. Voit’s a warrior, which is yet another valuable intangible trait the Yankees need.
At this point, don’t expect Voit to go anywhere. They’re called trade rumors for a reason, people.
