You can buy Gio Urshela gear, with his own patented logo, directly from the Yankees third baseman. Can I get a hell yeah?

The truest mark of a superstar athlete is the emergence of a brand. Kobe Bryant made his hay off the Black Mamba, LeBron James wasn’t the king until he had a crown, and Yankees third baseman Gio Urshela has spun his own name off into a pretty spiffy logo, too.

We’re not kidding. But no, unfortunately, it doesn’t feature him lying on his back,

making a spectacular throw to first

.

Though Urshela isn’t in quite the same stratosphere as the most important NBA players of the past two decades (hot take), he proved he wasn’t a fluke in 2020, and he’s now pivoted to making a bit more off his image than he had in previous years.

If you head to Urshela’s website, you can see his official personal logo, which dropped on Sunday night and is available to be emblazoned on a series of hats, at the moment. It’s actually…quite fire.

Be honest: You expected this to be worse, didn’t you? It’s pretty great!

Unfortunately, that mask is not currently available, and with a vaccine reportedly on the horizon, Urshela should probably get on that.

Any way you slice this, though, it’s a win for Urshela, who could really use one after a somewhat surprising Gold Glove defeat to Rangers infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Just look at this sequence and tell us Urshela didn’t deserve the hardware.

2021 could be a year in flux for the generational defender. If the Yankees sign DJ LeMahieu and pause their offseason there, there’ll be plenty of room for everyone in the field.

But if they decide to get bold, jettison LeMahieu and clog things up with a Francisco Lindor trade, then Urshela could find himself on the chopping block, shortly after the acquisition of one of his best friends. Cold.

No better time than the present to establish a personal brand, then, right?
