Yankees: Rays broadcaster rooting for Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton injuries is pathetic
Yankees fans now have every reason to wish for a sweep and endless embarrassment of the Rays.
If you thought Tampa Bay Rays manager Kevin Cash’s trash talk earlier this year in which he threatened the New York Yankees was classless, just wait until you hear what the team’s radio broadcast had to say during ALDS Game 1.
Monday’s matchup was a close one throughout, but Tampa imploded in the top of the ninth, giving way to five Yankees runs thanks to an Aaron Hicks RBI single and Giancarlo Stanton grand slam, which resulted in a 9-3 loss. Before that, in the top of the seventh inning, Aaron Judge grounded into a double play, and lumbered down the first base line in an attempt to beat the throw.
And that prompted THIS response from the Rays radio broadcast team. According to MLB.com, the booth is made up of three guys — Andy Freed, Davis Wills, and Neil Solondz — but we’re not sure who said it. Nonetheless, it was said, and it’s truly despicable stuff.
“I’ll tell you what, if you’re the Rays, again you want to see Aaron Judge trying to sprint and prevent a double play. You want to see that from Stanton and maybe they get some of those recurring leg issues that they’ve had in the past bounce back again.”
Ah, just like we predicted before this series started, the Rays can’t handle a fully healthy Yankees lineup. Yup, Tampa made quick work of the Yanks during the regular season, finishing 8-2 against the Bombers, but Judge played in only four of those games (and was injured during them!) and Stanton appeared in one. Gleyber Torres was absent for that final series against Tampa, and DJ LeMahieu missed three of the 10 games.
Shoutout to The Big Lead for getting their hands on this audio first!
Between this and the Rays going up and in to both Torres and Gio Urshela immediately following Stanton’s grand slam in the ninth, you have to laugh at the Rays endlessly crying about one brushback pitch by Aroldis Chapman and calling out the integrity of the entire Yankees organization.
Sure, the Yankees are pretty hate-able across the world, but not like this. They’re not beneath classlessness. We’ll see you in Game 2, Rays. It’d be a real shame if you went into an 0-2 series hole against a rookie pitcher…
