Home plate umpire John Tumpane ejected Yankees manager Aaron Boone Friday night.

When the New York Yankees went down early 3-0 to the Miami Marlins on Friday night, you could just feel the tensions boiling over. The Yankees are 1-4 in their last five games, with every loss being fairly disastrous — not really how you want to play heading into the postseason.

So when home plate umpire John Tumpane was calling low strikes in the first inning, manager Aaron Boone wanted to set the tone. After Aaron Judge was sent back to the dugout on a very low called strike three, Boone had enough after another “low” pitch was called a strike when Aaron Hicks was at bat.

To say Boone went ballistic is an understatement. It’s not quite “Savages in the Box,” but it’s still Emmy worthy.

And folks, that’s on live television before the producers were able to get a hold of the sound. You heard those beautiful F-bombs, didn’t you? But not before he complimented Sandy Alcantara’s sinker! Gotta give the young man props before sticking it to the ump.

Boone hit the showers early and the Yankees were left to a three-run deficit all by themselves. Perhaps the fire from their manager will create some buzz in the dugout and help generate some runs after how bad the offense has looked for most of this five-game stretch.

There’s been a lot on Boone’s mind lately with the playoff seeding, postseason starting rotation, and ongoing battle between Gary Sanchez and Kyle Higashioka. The man simply had to let it all out and he picked an opportunity worthy of doing so.

And remember Tumpane? The home plate ump was drilled in the facemask with a Gerrit Cole fastball last week and hit the deck before he was cleared to return to action. After getting sympathy from the Yankees, he’s now catching a ton of vitriol.

Ah, the ups and downs of the 2020 Yankees season.
