New York Yankees top prospect Clarke Schmidt had some feelings on IG.

The Yankees surprisingly demoted Clint Frazier this week, sending the masked outfielder back to Scranton in order to cull some additional bullpen depth from their player pool.

Though Frazier usually doesn’t go quietly into that good night, we didn’t really hear a peep from him after the news of his demotion became public.

We did, however, hear from another Yankees standout who was (probably) wrongfully banished to minor-league camp (aka the Alternate Site).

Clarke Schmidt stood out throughout camp, but when it came time to make final roster decisions, Aaron Boone opted for Michael King, while acknowledging that Schmidt’s time would likely come before season’s end. Still, though, Schmidt went back to work on a less bright stage, and seems to have gotten in his feelings a little bit as baseball’s begun.

Yes, these are Nipsey Hussle lyrics. No, they are not particularly alarming, on the surface.

But after watching Frazier get unfairly demoted again this weekend, let’s just say our senses are extra perceptive these days. We don’t want to see the Yankees squander any more of their most talented prospects by yo-yo’ing them back and forth.

Of course, the main difference here is that Frazier is a highly blocked outfielder, whereas Schmidt, just 24, has only thrown two professional seasons at the minor-league level, and would definitely be toiling in Scranton this summer, if the rest of 2020 had been somewhat normal.

Though he certainly looked ready in both Spring Training and Summer Camp, Schmidt still has plenty of grinding to do, and more left to prove.

It’s likely this message was more personally motivational, rather than a criticism of what is and isn’t “fair” about his situation, but still, we have our eyes peeled.

And, after all, none of this is fair, right? Schmidt should be dominating. Yankee Stadium should be packed.

For now? It is what it is.
