Yankees: Red Sox Being ‘Disappointed’ Mookie Betts Signed With Dodgers is Hilarious

Red Sox president Sam Kennedy said he was “disappointed” that Mookie Betts signed an extension with the Dodgers. Yankees fans are cool with it, though.

Are we missing something, Yankees fans? Did Mookie Betts spit in the Red Sox’ face after they handed him the key to Boston?

Oh wait, no. It was the Red Sox who offered him a below-market-value contract extension in an attempt to penny-pinch, refused to negotiate further (according to reports), and then traded him to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Without playing an official game for LA, Betts signed a 12-year, $365 million extension with the team this week, and every Sox fan who thought the team would somehow bring him back to Boston after the 2020 season collectively took to social media to proclaim their dream — even though it was already wildly unrealistic — officially dead.

Even Red Sox president Sam Kennedy weighed in and wasn’t happy about it.

It truly is hard watching your franchise homegrown superstar sign a long-term contract somewhere else and wear that new team’s hat into the Hall of Fame (if he’s inducted some day). But there was a very easy solution here!

One of the richest teams in baseball could’ve … just … paid one of the best players in baseball after he delivered a World Series to the team? Betts is also a four-time All-Star, four-time Gold Glover, three-time Silver Slugger, and AL MVP.

It seems like the decision wasn’t so hard, especially after guys like Mike Trout and Bryce Harper set the market. Boston could’ve met Betts in the middle, but instead acted like a bank with their rigid and conservative ways.

Sox owner John Henry is worth nearly $3 billion, but the guy was too busy fretting over the payroll falling beyond the luxury tax threshold. God forbid you have to cough up a few extra million after you were swimming in cash when your team effortlessly coasted to 108 wins and another World Series title less than two years ago.

If anyone should be disappointed, it’s the fans. You know who’s not though? The New York Yankees.
