Yankees: Unsigned Top International Prospect Seen Wearing NYY Gear During Workout
Could the Yankees add another coveted international prospect in 2021 in Roderick Arias?
Yankees fans aboard the Jasson Dominguez hype train might want to start warming up to the idea of signing another highly-touted international prospect coming to the Bronx. The latest buzz indicates that there are legs to the rumors that link five-tool shortstop Roderick Arias to New York.
The international free agent, who will become eligible in 2021, has posted several photos on Instagram in which he is proudly donning Yankees gear during workouts.
Even the Pinstripes’ most persevering haters have to admit that this is pretty big news. There’s just no way it doesn’t bode well for NYY’s chances of signing him.
Call us superstitious, but that looks like a player who wants to call the Bronx his home in the near future. How excited should Yankees fans be about potentially being the favorites to land Arias?
Well, let’s just say that scouts have tabbed him the best international SS prospect since Wander Franco, who is currently in the Tampa Bay Rays organization. Furthermore, he’s a switch hitter and has a cannon of a right arm, which instantly makes you think of Cleveland Indians superstar Francisco Lindor.
Ironically enough, that’s precisely the player — as well as prime Troy Tulowitzki — he’s regularly compared to. What’s more awesome than that? Arias and Dominguez, who inked a deal with New York last July, have the potential to be the No. 1 and No. 2 overall prospects in MLB down the road.
The thought of rostering two generational talents that could soon complement the Yankees’ already elite young core should absolutely thrill fans. Don’t look now, but by this time next year the club could flaunt the best farm system in all of baseball.
If Brian Cashman pulls this off, it’s quite feasible the Yankees are set for the next decade.
