Sergio Mitre, who served a suspension with the Yankees, is under investigation in Mexico.

You might remember Sergio Mitre for his days with the New York Yankees in 2009 and 2010, the former of which he served a 50-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs. He’s still playing baseball in Mexico at the age of 39, but it appears his career is about to come to an end regardless of the findings of this investigation.

According to the Mexican newspaper El Heraldo de Saltillo, Mitre is under investigation for raping and murdering the two-year-old daughter of his current partner of three months, Liliana Inés.

Mitre was also arrested for his involvement in a domestic violence incident with a former partner last September.

Late on Monday night, ESPN.com reported that Mitre was arrested for the possession of narcotics and was detained over the weekend and that his team, Saraperos de Saltillo, was awaiting the results of the investigation. It’s unclear if these two incidents are tied together.

According to El Heraldi de Saltillo, the autopsy revealed “the infant presented a blunt blow to the back, so the cause of death was hypovolemic shock due to a ruptured left renal artery.” In infant passed away on Monday after dealing with symptoms since Saturday.

On top of that, the Children’s hospital the infant was transferred to on Sunday found possibly signs of sexual abuse.

Mitre, who was drafted by the Cubs in 2001, played in eight MLB seasons with Chicago, the Florida Marlins, Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers. He was especially bad, too, logging a career record of 13-30 with a 5.21 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 265 strikeouts in 143 games (64 starts). He didn’t play in the MLB again after the 2011 season, finishing with the Yankees.

The allegations here are beyond comprehension and all we can hope for is justice to be served for the two-year-old girl.
