Yankees Target: Honorable Mentions

These New York Yankees 2021 relief targets make sense, but they have warts.
A few names that didn’t quite make the cut, likely with a fatal flaw:
Ian Kennedy: Remember IPK? Ahh, 2008. Such promise, so few deliverables. This could be a fun middle relief option, but at 36 (where, literally, did the time go), the Yankees aren’t likely to commit long-term to Kennedy.
Mark Melancon: Another former Yankee who’s been a bit too volatile to commit to these past few years, blowing up in the 2019 postseason for Atlanta. He’s also 36.
Alex Colome: He’s the White Sox closer with the resulting price tag, he’s 32, and does anyone really trust him? This is where you tie your cart to if you’re actively looking to downgrade from Britton.
Liam Hendriks: Now we’re talking. If the 32-year-old proves his success was repeatable in 2020, Hendriks vs. Britton will become a real internal debate. Maybe Oakland simply gives him away in trade and the NYY can have both?
