As much as I admire and root for Aaron Judge, I don’t believe that when all is said and done, he will end up having the best career out of any active Yankees star. That honor belongs to Gleyber Torres.

In the 1920s and ’30s the Yankees had The Babe and The Iron Horse. The 1940s brought with it Joltin’ Joe DiMaggio. Then in the 1950s and 60s, it was The Mick and the Chairman of the Board.

Come the 1970s, the Yanks trotted out Thurman Munson (for too short a time), Mr. October and Louisiana Lightning. Fast forward to the 1980s and Mr. May and Donnie Baseball were on display.

Since the 1990s, Yankee fans have been blessed by the Core 4 and a slew of other All-Stars.

However, who will be their immortal player of the 2020s and beyond?

Many will say Aaron Judge, and I don’t blame you one bit. Not only is Judge a star — he’s also class personified. I’d be shocked if he doesn’t land an extension and the captaincy within a year or two.

But my message to Brian Cashman is simple. It’s Gleyber Torres and that’s why the Yankees should lock up the Say Gley Kid sooner rather than later.
