Yankees: Three players with the most to prove this Spring Training
The Yankees have a lot to prove as a team this season but this Spring Training there’s a couple of individuals who have more to prove than others. For these players, it’s extremely important that they make a strong impression because if they don’t it could cost them a spot on the Opening Day roster.
For most of the Yankees regulars and veterans, Spring Training is the time where they slowly ease back into the grind and use the next five weeks to focus on improving in all facets of the game. It’s called the preseason for a reason so the results don’t really matter. What matters is that they prepare themselves as best as they can for the 162-game regular season when every game means something.
However, for the players who aren’t guaranteed anything, they need to make an immediate impact because for some of them their livelihoods depend on it. Jobs can be won and lost based on how a player performs at spring training which isn’t always fair because baseball is a game where you need a lot of reps before you feel like you’re in midseason form.
This year we have a pretty good idea of which Yankees we’re going to see on the Opening Day roster, but there a couple of position battles that will be fought for. The battle for the starting jobs at first base and left field will receive a lot of attention on the position player side and on the pitching side there are two open spots that need to be filled in the bullpen.
With that being said here are three names in the mix to win those jobs that have the most to prove this spring.
