Ever since the offseason has begun, its been non-stop chatter about free agent Manny Machado. Recent reports suggest the Yankees are out on him, but it appears that may not be entirely correct.

What a crazy offseason it has been so far in regards to the non-stop chatter about four-time All-Star, Manny Machado. However, I don’t mean crazy good; I mean insane bad. It’s been somewhat quiet surrounding the Yankees besides the recent signings of shortstop Troy Tulowitzki to a one-year, $555k deal and OF Billy Burns to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve have grown tired of going on Twitter and continually seeing my timeline filled with fans wanting or not wanting Machado. I wish he would sign with a team by now, but unfortunately, that’s not how it works in this business.

Machado wants the highest salary and longest amount of years that he can get, which who could fault him?

So we’ll keep hearing about the White Sox and Phillies jockeying for pole position until Machado is satisfied with an offer that he receives. Yankee fans immediately went into a frenzy when rumors started whirling on Wednesday that the Bombers were presumably out on Machado.

More from Yankees Rumors

The only actual occurrence thus far is that the Yanks have not presented a formal offer to the free agent superstar. Wallace Matthews of NYDailyNews.com reported this directly from a team source. Also, if Machado expects more money than Giancarlo Stanton initially received from the Marlins (13-year, $325 million deal), he needs to think again:

"A tweet by a reporter for a radio station in the Dominican Republic quoted an unnamed source that the hunt for Machado was down to just two teams, the Chicago White Sox and the Philadelphia Phillies. Machado visited both teams, as well as the Yankees, in mid-December.“I haven’t been told that,’’ said the source, who requested anonymity in exchange for providing some details of the Yankees interactions with Machado. But the source added that it was the Yankees understanding that Machado “wants more money than [Giancarlo] Stanton.’’ If true, said the source, “then good luck with that.’’"

So what’s the good news for Yankee fans that still want the Bombers to sign Machado?

"According to a person familiar with the meeting, Machado and his wife made a favorable impression on the Yankees.Apparently, Machado did an adequate job of clarification in his meeting with the Yankees.“He was not at all what we were led to believe,’’ the source said. “He and his wife are lovely people.’’"

Even more positive news, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, who appears amused by all these rumors, confirmed on the MLB Network that the Bombers are NOT out on Machado. During the 2018 regular season, Machado hit .297/.366/.487 with 37 home runs and 107 RBIs, and that would no doubt help push the Yanks towards a World Series run in 2019.
