Yankees veteran LHP, C.C. Sabathia, underwent a heart procedure on December 11 after experiencing symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn.

Wow, this is frightening news to hear! According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Yankees veteran underwent a heart procedure on December 11 after experiencing symptoms of acid reflux and heartburn.

The symptoms started occurring before CC was scheduled to leave for England to promote the Yankees and Red Sox two-game series in London next June. He noticed that he was sweating more than usual while he was exercising on a bike and than started experiencing chest pain so he went to get it checked out. It turns out he had a blockage in one of the arteries leading to his heart which required a procedure to insert a stent to the open artery.

This is terribly disconcerting to read. CC could have had a heart attack if he didn’t report his symptoms to a doctor as quickly as he did. Thankfully, he did and now he is expected to make a full recovery.

More from Yankees News

The news today comes just a month and a half after the Yankees brought back CC on a one-year, $8 million deal. During the 2018 regular season in 29 games, he went 9-7 posting a 3.65 ERA striking out 140.

Per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, Yankees general manager, Brian Cashman, commented on Sabathia’s health:

"“We are thankful that CC was smart enough to convey his symptoms to our medical staff, and in turn, they immediately engaged NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, who quickly determined the root cause of what ailed him. We are also encouraged that the procedure CC underwent was performed as planned. He is such a dynamic person beyond his excellence on the field, and we will proceed with his health at the forefront of our priorities. We will continue to follow the guidance and expertise of the doctors — who have conveyed that CC will report as scheduled to Tampa in February to prepare for the 2019 season.”"

Next. Yankees should pursue these three under the radar relievers. dark

After 18 years in the big leagues, the 2019 season is going to be CC’s last year playing. I imagine there will be a farewell tour for CC and fans will pack the Stadium to see his last games as a Yankee and give him the proper send off he most definitely deserves.

Hopefully, Sabathia is now okay and doesn’t have any further health scares.
