Yankees fans should be thankful for these three Bombers this holiday season

Chad Green
Aroldis Chapman, Dellin Betances, and David Robertson have been some of the marquee names to take the ball in the Yankees pen the past two seasons. All three relievers are extremely capable of closing out ballgames, hence giving them more recognition.
However, RHP Chad Green has compiled quite the resume in his first two full-years in pinstripes. While certainly not unknown by any means, fans need to realize how outstanding Green has been in the majors!
Green, 27, had an absolutely dominant 2017 and very respectable 2018. Check out some of the numbers:
2017: 40 G (1 GS), 69.0 IP, 1.83 ERA, 14 R (14 ER), 0.74 WHIP, 103 K, 13.4 K/9 IP
2018: 63 G (0 GS), 75.2 IP, 2.50 ERA, 22 R (21 ER), 1.04 WHIP, 94 K, 11.2 K/9 IP
Although there was an increase in ERA and a decrease in Green’s K/9 IP, the righty still had an amazing year in a crowded Yankees bullpen.
One factor that makes Green stand out from the rest of the Yankees ‘pen is his ability to pitch multiple innings and with runners on base. In 2018 alone, the reliever appeared in 22 games in which he pitched multiple innings, in addition to entering a game 21 times when there was at least one runner on base.
Just for comparison, here are what other Yankees relievers did in these two categories:
David Robertson: 10 multiple inning appearances, 18 appearances entering with runners on base
Dellin Betances: 7 multiple inning appearances, 5 appearances entering with runners on base
Aroldis Chapman: 2 multiple inning appearances, 5 appearances entering with runners on base
You’re probably saying to yourself, “Why would I care about this?”
Not only does this demonstrate that Green is able to pitch multiple innings, but that the righty is extremely capable of pitching in high-leverage situations.
Just by a glance in 2018, Betances and Chapman were clearly more comfortable appearing in games at the start of a clean inning. While this is understandable from both of their perspectives, it shows how valuable of a weapon Green is for Aaron Boone in the Yankees pen.
