The 2019 season will be the final go-around for six-time All-Star C.C. Sabathia, and he will retire as a member of the Yankees.
A week after the Yankees re-signed Brett Gardner, the team re-signed C.C. Sabathia Tuesday night to a one-year, $8 million deal.
Sabathia has been with the Yanks for since 2009 and 2019 will make his 11th season in pinstripes and the 19th season of his big league career. Mark Feinsand of MLB.com tweeted that CC took less money to return to the Yankees because he had no interest playing elsewhere and his family has made a home for themselves in the New York/ New Jersey area.
CC helped the Bombers win the World Series in 2009, and now he hopes to earn his second ring in 2019 before he retires. Sabathia went 9-7 in the 2018 regular season with a 3.65 ERA, striking out 140 in 153 IP. Sabathia didn’t pitch very well in Game 4 of the ALDS, a 4-3 loss against the Red Sox at Yankee Stadium. In three innings, he allowed three earned runs and five hits. I’m glad he’ll be retiring as a Yankee, and both the organization and GM Brian Cashman wanted him back to be apart of next year’s club and retire in pinstripes.

CC has been through a lot with his chronic knee issues and battling an uphill to become who he used to be as a pitcher. His age is catching up to him now, but he is a hard worker who’s craftiness still makes him a very successful pitcher.
He’s also a huge leader in the clubhouse. Everyone looks up to him. Hopefully, CC will go out with a big bang because that’s what he deserves.
Know that CC is retiring, I’m sure Cashman will still look to add a couple more starters to upgrade the Yankees rotation. The Yanks also have young pitchers who will be competing for a rotation spot in Spring Training such as Chance Adams, Jonathan Loaisiga, Domingo German and Justus Sheffield.
