Yankees managing general partner and co-chairman, Hal Steinbrenner, is distraught that his organization lost to the Red Sox in this year’s ALDS.

Joel Sherman of NYPost.com recently interviewed Yankees managing general partner and co-chairman, Hal Steinbrenner, and he expressed his anger for losing against the division rival Boston Red Sox.

I’m not going to deny this — I am somewhat shocked that Hal went out and stated that he has no love for the Red Sox on the field or in the AL East. This is the first time that I’ve heard such strong words from him.

Regarding how he felt losing to the Red Sox in the postseason:

"“certainly pisses me off. I never want a division rival to outdo us.”At another point, Steinbrenner offers, “I have no love for the Red Sox on the field or in the division.”More from Yankees NewsScott Boras closed Yankees-Carlos Rodón deal from Fenway Park, put cherry on topOrioles are bailing out Yankees and AL East by botching free agencyGuy who caught Aaron Judge record HR ball cost himself tons of money in auctionDid Yankees fans bully Hal Steinbrenner into signing Aaron Judge, Carlos Rodón?Andrew Benintendi-White Sox deal proves Yankees were right to prioritize Carlos Rodón"

Hearing the truth from the horse’s mouth is terrific, especially considering how frustrated Hal is and the moves the club will have to make this offseason. Perhaps Steinbrenner’s passion will drive the Yankees to step up and finally landing a top-flight starting pitcher in the free agent market such as Dallas Keuchel or Patrick Corbin.

In respects to four-time All-Star Manny Machado and 2015 MVP, Bryce Harper, who are both entering free agency, Hal didn’t comment on them. However, he mentioned that if a player is seeking a 10-year commitment, that won’t scare the organization away from wanting to sign them:

"He said 10-year-ish commitments — the kind likely needed to sign a Harper or Machado — haven’t “scared us in the past and won’t in the future.” He said adding Giancarlo Stanton with 10 years left on his contract last offseason would not preclude another lavish contract, noting the team has big pacts coming off the books in the next few years."

I’m personally not a fan of 10-year contracts. It’s too many years, and I’d rather give a hefty amount of money per year on a short-term deal, rather than go all out with $250-300M for a decade-long contract. Especially if you regret it later on down the road — (ahem) Jacoby Ellsbury.

Then again it’s not my money, so the Yanks can do as they please.

Hal also stated that he’s sick of his team having to go through Wild Card games (2015, 2017 and 2018), saying that the Bombers need to win the division.

Whether or not that leads to the Yanks signing Machado — the 26-year-old himself recently thanked the Dodgers and their fans on Instagram for believing in and for supporting him during his brief time in LA.

One thing is clear, though: Hal is not happy off, and he wants the Yankees to win the World Series in 2019 — and that’s just how it should be.
