One of Yankees clubhouse favorites and leaders, CC Sabathia, was ejected in the bottom of the sixth inning after plunking Ray’s catcher Jesus Sucre. This made him two innings shy of receiving his $500k bonus.

In Thursday’s Yankee game vs. Rays, things got out of control as CC Sabathia and Aaron Boone were tossed out during the bottom of the 6th inning.

CC threw a two-seam fastball unintentionally plunking Jake Bauer in the bottom of the 5th inning on his right hand. In the top of the 6th, Rays reliever Andrew Kittridge threw up and in at the head of Austin Romine, and he didn’t like it. It seemed that was in retaliation to Sabathia.

The Bombers responded afterward by bringing in four runs, making it an 11-0. CC clearly didn’t appreciate his catcher getting thrown at so he got out of the dugout. He was restrained by manager Aaron Boone. In the bottom of the 6th inning, Sabathia retaliated by drilling Rays’ catcher Jesus Sucre in the leg on the first pitch of the bottom of the 6th inning.

He was immediately ejected, and manager Aaron Boone was also ejected. Sabathia pointed at the Rays’ dugout, and said “That’s for you, b****”,” and left the game. This may make him lose his $500k bonus, but what made me admire CC was that he didn’t care about the money. He wanted to protect his team. He is loyal to his teammates.

CC told reporters after the game he couldn’t care less about the bonus:

"“I don’t really make decisions based on money, I guess. I just felt like it was the right thing to do,” he told reporters."

He was sticking up for his teammates, which I applaud. Sabathia doesn’t mess around and the front office should donate CC the money anyway. For all CC has done for this organization it would be a nice gesture by the Yankees and well deserved for CC.
