Managing general partner and co-chairman of the New York Yankees, Hal Steinbrenner supports Aaron Boone regardless of the backlash from the fans.

Yankees managing general partner and co-chairman, Hal Steinbrenner gave his official support to Aaron Boone after backlash from fans showing their discontent with how poorly Boone’s been managing recent games, took over social media.

General manager Brian Cashman took a gamble on a manager with no experience, similarly to the way the late George M. Steinbrenner took a chance on Cashman when Bob Watson resigned from the Yankees following the 1997 season.

Hal Steinbrenner recently told George A. King III of NYPost.com:

"“Aaron Boone has done a good job dealing with all these moving parts and certainly has the respect of the players,’’ Steinbrenner told The Post via email Thursday, when the Yankees were off ahead of a nine-game homestand that starts with the downtrodden Blue Jays on Friday night. “Overall we have been happy with the choice.’’More from Yankees NewsDiamondbacks outfielder’s comment on Carlos Rodón’s IG raises eyebrowsAaron Judge Time interview scared Yankees as much as it scared youWhy weren’t Yankees in on Kodai Senga now that we know the price?Baseball Reference proves Yankees’ Aaron Judge lives rent free in BostonYankees’ Clay Holmes trade just became even bigger disaster for Pirates"

Many of us fans, beg to differ. I’m one of them. I only have so much patience with the Yankees losing ground on their Wild Card lead. Where’s the fire?

Boone is too laid back, and that rubs off on everyone in the clubhouse. You need that tough-minded mentality — and perhaps someone that instills a bit of fear to make you better. It’s rare we see any emotion whatsoever out of Boone.

As Steinbrenner continued telling the NY Post:

"“The injuries we have had the last few months have been of significant duration, and have affected some of our key players,’’ Steinbrenner wrote. “The team has done well persevering but losing players like Sanchez, Judge, Chapman, etc. does have an impact. The good news is that we appear to be getting healthy again. Slowly, but surely.’’"

While, of course, Aaron Judge, Gary Sanchez and Didi Gregorius did suffer injuries, I still believe that Boone’s personality is too friendly and chill — and that’s not entirely helpful for one of the biggest sports franchises in the world.

The person I would love to see return — you guessed it — is Joe Girardi. The manager who led the team for a decade, and brought them within one game of the World Series just last year. He shouldn’t have been fired, plain and simple.

While Aaron Boone is very knowledgeable about the game of baseball, he came from the commentary booth, which is vastly different from actually managing a game.

It is also his rookie year as a manager, so maybe I should cut him some slack, along with many fans. However, with a team full of very talented players, especially after acquiring 2017 NL MVP Giancarlo Stanton, the Yanks need to step it up and stop making excuses.

So what if you’ve won 91 games? The Red Sox have been victorious 101 times — the A’s 90 and the Astros 92. There are a lot of good teams, but only so many make the playoffs.

Whatever the case is, the Bombers still hold a 1.5 game lead of the top Wild Card spot. Let’s hope they win enough games to at least secure home-field advantage for one night in October.
