We discuss the key additions the Yankees should make this winter. Which will be more effective: adding another arm or infielder for 2018?
Returning three starting pitchers out of their five-man rotation, including Cy Young finalist and ace Luis Severino, the Yankees seem to be just a couple of arms away from quite possibly becoming the type of dynasty MLB hasn’t seen in a very long time.
A productive fourth arm in the Yanks’ rotation is necessary. The organization still has young left-hander Jordan Montgomery and will lean on him to contribute even more in 2018 following the losses of C.C. Sabathia and Jaime Garcia to free agency.
Right-handed pitcher Chance Adams has been a top prospect in the Yankees’ farm system for a couple of years now. It is expected that he will enter spring training as one of the top guys competing for the final spot in the rotation.
With the addition of Stanton, the Yankees’ offense appears to be absolutely stacked. Regardless of Stanton’s role, DH’ing or playing the field, the Yanks have Brett Gardner and Aaron Hicks to complement Aaron Judge.

Judge seems to be the favorite for starting right fielder at this point. It is still unknown whether Stanton will serve as the primary DH, split time with Judge at DH/RF or become the teams’ everyday left fielder.
In other news, the Yankees traded third basemen Chase Headley, back to his original team, the San Diego Padres. The Padres agreed to accept what was remaining on Headley’s contract, freeing up $13 million for the Yankees to use this offseason.
Furthermore, in the Stanton deal, the club sent their starting second baseman Starlin Castro to the Marlins as part of the transaction. With that being said, the only remaining holes in the team’s lineup seem to be in the infield at third base.
There are hopes of Gleyber Torres taking over second base or potentially third base. However, Ronald Torreyes can play third if the Yankees choose to target a starting pitcher in free agency.
With that being said, there are the five players the Yankees should target to spark a magical future for years to come. With a little more than two months remaining before spring training, the team will more than likely pull the trigger on a top, quality free agent soon.
Let’s now take a look at the Top 5 free agent options for the Yankees.
