Do not fear, Yankees fans; Aaron Judge will be back

Perhaps Aaron Judge’s August swoon had something to do with his newly discovered bum shoulder. As for the Yankees slugger’s robust September, cortisone shots can do wonders.

I was shocked when I read that Yankees rookie phenom, Aaron Judge, had undergone shoulder surgery.

It seemed to be on the down low as we had seen pictures of his left shoulder being iced following games, but no official word from the organization. No DL stint, whatsoever.

Going into the Home Run Derby, many questioned his participation. It had been stated previously that participants had come out with their swing altered and therefore began producing at a lower rate.

After 47 home runs in said Derby, could Judge simply have swung TOO MUCH?

The first prolonged slump followed immediately. But give this 25-year-old with the sheepish grin credit, because he came back in September from epic fails in the previous months, including a strikeout record of 37 consecutive games.

However, Judge would hit 15 home runs in 27 games in September and lead the Yankees to a postseason berth.

Now we find out Judge had arthroscopy. ‘Scopy,’ meaning literally “to look.” Arthro — “in a joint.”  It means that Aaron Judge needed to be looked at and according  to the doctors, “cleaned up.” His shoulder had a “moving body.” Something foreign in the joint.

You try playing with something painful floating in your gigantic shoulder. Needing surgery but playing every day, never making excuses and maintaining the shy smile and “it’s all about the Yankees” persona. This kid is mature beyond his years.

Striking out at record-breaking levels but never acknowledging that his shoulder actually HURT. That’s the real story here.

Aaron Judge was injured but contributed to his team, going above and beyond. Remember, this team was picked to finish third, at best, in the AL East pre-season standings.

He won the AL Rookie of the Year from three outlets, was a Gold Glove finalist and MVP runner-up. If ANYONE can come back better than ever, it’s Judge.

Next: Yankees need a lefty reliever

The “look” is complete. Now we will see what happens in 2018 for the Yankees. And Aaron Judge will show us all, with his repaired shoulder what he can do, fully healthy. Stay tuned. And I’ll have my glasses on if I fail to see anything.
