The Yankees scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Toronto Blue Jays at Steinbrenner Field 6-5 raising their Preseason record to 21-7.

The Yankees took advantage of four errors by the Toronto Blue Jays, including two that proved devasting in the ninth, to come behind on a walk-off single by Pete Kozma against Jays reliever, Joe Biagini.

Toronto had taken a 5-4 lead in the seventh off Jon Niese who looked like he was well on his to securing a spot in the Yankees bullpen, but has been struggling of late.

The Yankees offense was quiet throughout the afternoon as they managed to total only seven hits in the game. One of those, however, was another home run off the bat of Greg Bird, his seventh of the Preseason.

Adam Warren, who is one the contenders battling for the fifth spot in the rotation that was vacated by Luis Cessa, made the start and on this day he did not look like he was ready for prime time.

In just 3 1/3 innings, he surrendered four earned runs on four hits, including two home runs while walking two of the 16 batters he faced.

A Harbinger Of Things To Come?

Joe Girardi made a move today that could be a sign of things to come for the Yankees by starting Tyler Wade at shortstop. As pointed out earlier today in a story, with only one week left in Spring Training, lineups become more significant as Girardi allows the regular unit a chance to play together in preparation for the season opener on April 2.

Wade went 1-3 and scored a run raising his spring average to .341. Ronald Torreyes, another contender for the spot vacated by Didi Gregorius, relieved Chase Headley at third base after Headley was removed from the game. Torreyes reached on an error in the ninth inning and scored one of the two Yankees runs in the inning.

George King III, writing in the New York Post, took a couple of swings at Clint Frazier suggesting he needs “to grow up,” adding that his best value to the organization might be as a trade chip for Jose Quintana.

George needs to learn to say what he means, but he has a point at least regarding Frazier’s toying with the team’s hair policy before eventually giving in to the Yankees way. Frazier was well aware of the team’s policy before he challenged it.

Then, he got tired of answering questions about it and had it cut. By then, the damage was done. Girardi explained it to the Post this way:

"“He really wanted to talk about himself as a baseball player instead of his hair all of the time,” Girardi said. “He took care of that, and I think that’s what it got to. I think the focus was on his play more than anything else after that. I thought he handled it pretty well. He is a young man who has a little style to him. We love the way he plays.”"

Now, he’ll have plenty of time to think about while he’s taking his swings in Pennsylvania instead of the Bronx.

In other news, the Arizona Diamondbacks returned Rule 5 Draft selection Tyler Jones to the Yankees, who immediately assigned him to Triple-A Scranton Wiles-Barre.

The Yankees are home again tomorrow at Steinbrenner Field to face the Tampa Bay Rays in a 1:05 p.m. EST afternoon game.
