The Yankees, especially around this time of the year, always generate a good amount of chatter among their fans. Yanks Go Yard takes a look at its mailbag to see what our readers are saying about the team and the articles published by YGY writers. Comments are not edited for content or grammar and appear as written. Links within comments are provided by YGY.

****First up is a comment received about a story that was titled Brian Cashman Offers Fatherly Advice To His Baby Bombers:

Dillinger91 offers:

Every young celebrity should be taking notes right here. Wise words from Cashman right here.

****Next, on a story that questioned why Spring Training Has To Last Forever – especially this one:

Michael Bradbury comments:

Can’t argue with you. I’m going to tampa 22-27th and there’s still another week after that. It is nutz.
About the $ for Fl and AZ?

 Derrick Pasley added:

As long as the guys don’t get hurt, do what I do……..focus on in-season sports, like the NHL, NBA, and March Madness…..

****A story that argued the Yankees should negotiate a long term deal with Gleyber Torres drew quite a bit of attention, both pro and con:

CalvinM Argues:

Uh, Torres is going to be a minimum wage player for several more years. How does that equate to penny-pinching. If they want to save money then they could trade Castro, who is owed $46M over the next 4 years and replace him with Gleyber, who would be paid $500,000 a year. Calling the Yankees cheap when they have the 2nd or 3rd highest payroll is kind of, well, stupid, but so is the proposition that because a few young players have done well at a similar age the Yankees should bring him up to the big leagues because he is going to perform just like those players. Google the post hoc ergo propter hoc fallacy. Torres was a .270 hitter in low A ball last year, which indicates that he needs more time to develop. Just because some writer hack decided that he is a top 10 prospect does not mean his is going to magically turn into Mike Trout or Manny Machado if they bring him up to the bigs.

 UltimateYankeesFan offered:

Jesus Christ the kid Torres hasn’t played an inning of ML baseball. Even once he’s called up the Yankees control him for 6 years. I agree with the previous poster let Torres get a year on ML play under his belt then if the Yankees and Torres agree discuss a long term deal that buys out one year of free agency. Sure the Yankees want to delay his ML service time but also want to wait and see how he performs at the upper levels of the minor leagues as the competition gets more difficult. There is plenty and I do mean plenty of time for the Yankees and Torres to discuss a long term deal if Torres continues to progress.

****And in a story that argued how Clint Frazier Is Quietly Making A Case For Himself:

BillyBall pointed out that:

I agree, time to let kids play but I don’t foresee a Gardy trade until close to the deadline. Someone will get hurt and Fowler and Frazier will be up before the deadline.

galihaaben offered:

Yankees have so much outfield talent in the system that it’s ridiculous.

Don’t sleep on Blake Rutherford as well. He is said to have the best hitting talent, though not as much power, but probably the best hitting talent the Yankees have in their farm system since Jeter.

It will be hard to move Ellsbury because he has like 4? years left on his contract, including this upcoming season. It will probably be easier to move him in about two years, but would require the Yankees to eat a huge chunk of that salary.

****Next, in a story that asked  if Luis Severino had blown his chance with the Yankees by playing in the WBC:

Nicholas Koutsoftas wrote:

While I agree that the WBC is a bit of a nuisance, I also think that it might help a player like Severino. The stuff is there with this kid, he just has to gain confidence and harness it. Pitching for his country might just give him the confidence he is lacking. Don’t forget that his coach in the WBC is none other than Tony Pena who he is already familiar with and Im sure Pena and Joe or Rothchild will stay in contact throughout.

****And in a story that responded to the rumor that the Yankees were back in play for Jose Quintana:

Soundknight wrote:

Quintana is a pseudo-ace. And by psuedo-ace, I mean he’s really a solid number 2 pitcher. I can understand the appeal given his consistency. But I feel the demand for him is overvalued and if the Yankees were to go after anyone it should have been someone of Chris Sale‘s caliber. The prospects they’re asking for are together worth more than Quintana.

****And finally, for this week, a story that argued for Tony Pena as the next Yankees manager drew this comment from:

JonM7 who wrote:

I agree about all said about Pena. He took a Demotion to 1st base coach instead of staying bench coach. He Pena cot sick of Girardi the Dictator who would even today take Zero input during the game. He refused to be a Puppet and therefore on his terms left the bench to be the 1st base coach and not a Girardi Puppet. He’s been a manager before and all the players respect him and he is Bi lingual. In Short I’m Sick and tired of Girardi’s Dictatorship as do the players. It’s time for a change for Girardi has his little pet every year and has his player Dog House. If he keeps Worthless Romaine catcher on the roster he wasting a roster position and really has to go. If the Boss George was still alive Girardi would of been fired a few years ago as he should of been.
