Yanks Go Yard Radio Show: Yankees-Red Sox Preview (8/9-8/11)
On last night’s Yanks Go Yard Radio Show we look ahead to the Yankees-Red Sox series and talk more about Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez
At the beginning of last night’s Yanks Go Yard Radio Show, we spent the first 30 minutes talking about the big news from this past weekend as Mark Teixeira announced his retirement (effective at the end of the season) and the news that Alex Rodriguez would play his final game in pinstripes Friday.
My first guest for this show was frequent co-host of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show and staff writer at YGY, Harrison Marder. Harrison and I talked about the legacy of Alex Rodriguez as a Yankee, our reactions to A-Rod’s press conference from Sunday, and whether or not the Yankees owed him a chance to get to 700 home runs for his career.
Harrison and I also talked about the legacy of Mark Teixeira and whether or not the Yankees would sign him again if they had the chance to go back. Plus, I share my story about meeting Teixeira during batting practice of a Braves-Mets game when Teixeira was in Atlanta. Finally, the two of us make our case for who should replace A-Rod on the roster on Saturday.
Tonight, the New York Yankees (56-55) begin a three game series at Fenway Park against the Boston Red Sox (60-50). New York is currently 4.5 games behind Boston for the second spot in the AL Wild Card race. This season, the Red Sox are 6-3 in nine games against the Yankees.

During Boston’s 11-game West Coast road trip before tonight’s game, they went 5-6 against the Angels, Mariners, and Dodgers. Since the All-Star Break, John Farrell’s club is 11-12 in 23 games and they are three games behind the Baltimore Orioles in the AL East.
In that Mariners series, the Red Sox called up one of their top prospects, Andrew Benintendi, to play left field. In Sunday’s night loss against the Dodgers, the 2015 first round pick went 3-for-4 with two RBI’s.
Since the All-Star Break, the Red Sox are third in the American League in runs scored (108) and they have hit the most home runs (36). Right fielder Mookie Betts is hitting .341 over his last 21 games with five home runs and 15 RBI’s. One player who is currently struggling is designated hitter David Ortiz (.216, three home runs, 15 RBI’s).

As far as the starting rotation goes, the Red Sox are ninth in the American League in ERA (4.56). One player who has not lived up to his contract is David Price. Price is 0-2 with a 4.31 ERA in his five starts since the All-Star Break.
