Yankees Early Offense is an Encouraging Sign

Early on this season, the Bronx Bombers have lived up to the club’s nickname.

The Yankees have scored 40 runs through their first seven games, putting them near the top of the list in the American League in that category.

According to Mark Feinsand of the New York Daily News, Joe Girardi said the offense has been coming from every part of the lineup.

"“‘I give [the team] a lot of credit, because so far this season there really has not been a weak link in the lineup,’ Girardi said, Feinsand wrote. ‘They’ve all contributed. That makes it much more difficult for teams to navigate through our lineup.’”"

Girardi is spot on. His batting order is deep and it’s good to see the Yankees scoring runs right out of the gate.

At the top of the lineup, Brett Gardner and Jacoby Ellsbury have done a nice job setting the table.

Gardner has a .400 OBP and a stolen base. Ellsbury has two doubles, a triple and five RBIs.

The big bats in the middle of the order have also started strong.

Mark Teixeira leads the team with three home runs. Brian McCann and Carlos Beltran each have two. Alex Rodriguez has gone yard once.

McCann is hitting .500 and leads the team with nine hits. Teixeira is second on the team with eight RBIs.

Starlin Castro and Didi Gregorius are leading the charge at the bottom of the lineup.

Castro has welcomed himself to the Bronx by hitting .346 with 2 home runs. He also leads the Yankees with 9 RBIs.

Gregorius looks like he did during the second half of last season. The 26-year-old shortstop is hitting .333 with a home run, a double and three RBIs.

Members of the Yankees bench are even getting in on the action.

Backup infielder Ronald Torreyes has already collected six hits and two RBIs in just nine at-bats.

All this offense will go a long way in helping a starting rotation that has looked somewhat shaky to begin the season.

CC Sabathia is the only starting pitcher to last six innings thus far for the Yankees.

If this trend continues, the Yankees will need all the offense they can get in order to win games.

While the impressive offensive numbers to start the season are a positive sign, the Yankees must continue to score runs throughout the entire 2016 campaign.

Last season, a number of key hitters, including Ellsbury, Gardner and Rodriguez, stumbled at the plate down the stretch.

If the Yankees hope to make a run to the World Series this October, they can’t afford to have such pivotal players struggle so mightily.

I think I speak for all Yankees fans when I say I hope this offensive outburst continues into the latter portion of the season.
