Yanks Go Yard Radio Show Rewind: Spring Training Is Here!

For this week’s episode, we introduce you to our new co-editor and talk all things Yankees’ spring training
On this week’s episode of the Yanks Go Yard Radio Show (recorded Thursday night), we were finally able to talk about some on-field baseball as pitchers and catchers reported to spring training this week in Tampa, Florida. This week, my special guest on the show was a new member of the YGY family.
Since our last episode, Yanks Go Yard has hired a new co-editor and his name is Christian Kouroupakis, who used to be a staff writer at Empire Writes Back, the New York regional site at Fansided. You can follow Christian on Twitter by going to @ck260

To start the show, Christian gave his take on the Yankees’ moves this winter. Then, Christian and I talked about Aroldis Chapman and his comments from Thursday saying that he would appeal any suspension handed down by Commissioner Manfred and whether or not it would be a distraction for the team this spring
After discussing Christian’s story lines for this upcoming season, the two of us discussed the news of the Yankees having a two-year deal with reliever Tommy Hunter, but that deal fell apart because of the physical. My take on this was I would have rather had New York sign Tyler Clippard (now with Arizona) for two years than Hunter.

Of course, one of the big news topics off the field this week involving the Yankees was that they are no longer accepting PDF’ tickets printed at home. The two of us gave our reactions to this story as well as the comments given by Yankees’ COO Lonn Trost on WFAN’s Boomer and Carton on Thursday.
Some other topics that were part of our conversation were looking at some of the predictions from USA Today and PECOTA this past week, where does Joe Girardi rank among the game’s best managers, and should the Yankees go after Nationals’ pitcher Stephen Strasburg if he hits free agency at the end of the season?

Finally, in honor of MLB Network’s misremembered special that aired Thursday night, we look back at some past Yankees moments and wondered what might have happened if the events were different. Christian looks back at the 1996 ALCS and the Derek Jeter home run caught by Jeffrey Maier and I look back at what might have happened had the Yankees beaten the Tigers in the 2011 ALDS and had a rematch with the Texas Rangers in the ALCS.
