Is Juan Uribe a Fit for the New York Yankees?
By now most of you have heard that New York Yankees minor leaguer Gregory Bird underwent surgery to repair a torn labrum that will keep him sidelined for the duration of 2016.
While the 23-year old wasn’t expected to log major league playing time in 2016, he was still first in line to be called up should the oft-injured Mark Teixeira go down with another injury.
Now, without the Bird option, all signs point to the Yankees using infield utility-man Dustin Ackley to back up at first, but might the Yankees take a second look at the free-agent market to add some more insurance for skipper Joe Girardi?

Perhaps the 36-year old veteran Juan Uribe could be of service?
Sources indicate that the Cleveland Indians are currently the only major league club in serious pursuit of Uribe, but the 15-year veteran seems like a perfect fit in pinstripes given the circumstances.
Not only would Uribe be a tremendous clubhouse boost, but he can also play first base for the Yankees when Tex needs a days rest and he can even slide in at third to spell Chase Headley.
However, in order to sign Uribe, the Yankees will have to do two things.
First, the Yankees will need to flip the script and actually sign a free-agent to a major league deal, something Brian Cashman has indicated he has no interest in doing this winter.
Second, the Yankees will need to convince Uribe to accept a backup role, which will be very tough considering Mike Chernoff and the Cleveland Indians are willing to offer him the everyday job at third base for 2016.
Sure Uribe will turn 37 before opening day, but he still offers a ton of versatility. He is also a career .256 hitter with 192 homers and 791 RBI.
