While the entire city of New York was out shoveling the streets and getting rid of the 28 inches of snow left behind by Winter Storm Jonas, the Yankees were doing some cleaning of their own, as they released four minor leaguers from their contracts. The new was first reported by Robert Pimpsner of Pinstriped Prospects.

The most notable release was former top prospect Angelo Gumbs, who was originally drafted by the Yankees out of Torrance High School in the second round of the 2010 Amateur Draft. In six seasons with the Yankees, the 23-year old Gumbs slashed a combined .231/.281/.347 in just under 1,500 plate appearances. Despite being ranked as a top 10 prospect in the Yankees system by Baseball America and MLB.com back in 2012 and 2013, Gumbs never made is past Class-A Advanced with the Tampa Yankees. Last season he hit just .176 with one home run and 16 RBI in 202 plate appearances down in Tampa.

Interestingly enough, as soon as he was released by the Yankees, the Cincinnati Reds signed Gumbs to a minor league deal, so maybe they saw something in Gumbs the Yankees were missing.

The Yankees also released a pair of outfielders in Griff Gordon and Teodoro Martinez as well as catcher Isaias Tejada.

Gordon, 23 was selected by the Yankees in the 27th round of the 2014 Amateur Draft out of Jacksonville State University. Last season he split his playing time between the Staten Island Yankees and the Charleston RiverDogs, posting a .260/.333/.325 slash line with a .644 OPS in 229 plate appearances.

Martinez, also 23, had a very short lived career in the Yankees system. In just 16 games, 13 of which were in the Gulf Coast League, the Venezuelan native hit just .106 in 51 plate appearances. Prior to playing for the Yankees, Martinez spent six seasons in the Texas Rangers farm system, playing as high as Double-A for the Frisco RoughRiders in 2014.

Isais Tejada, 24 was a member of the Yankees since 2009 when he signed as an amateur free agent. In six seasons, the Dominican Republic native slashed .261/.321/.401 with a .722 OPS in 1,251 plate appearances. Though he was once elected to the New York-Penn League All-Star Game, Tejada still never advanced past Class-A Advanced. In 2015 he split time between the Charleston RiverDogs and Tampa Yanks, hitting .277 with five homers and 42 RBI.
