New York Yankees Minor League Recap: 7/20-7/26

Another week is in the books. Let’s take a look at how the trade chips, I mean minor league teams did this week.
AAA- Scranton Wilkes Barre
Scranton finished the week on a five game winning streak. Even without the injured Aaron Judge, Scranton now has a two game divisional lead.
Hitter of the Week- Ben Gamel continues to be all sorts of awesome in AAA. The 23 year old had four multi- hit games including a three RBI game this past Saturday. Gamel is sixth in Total Bases and 10th in OPS.
Runner Up- Jose Pirela. All He has done since going back down to AAA is hit and play all over the place and yet he can’t crack a spot on the major league roster. Pirela had three multi-hit games, drove in six and is hitting .368 in his past 10 games. No big deal.
Pitcher of the Week- Kyle Davies
Davies picked up a win this week and was pretty solid in his two starts this week. In 13 innings, he did walk seven, but he only gave up five hits and one earned run in those starts. The 31 year old has been okay in AAA this season and has given the Yankees some good depth there.
Runner Up- Bryan Mitchell
Mitchell was finally sent back to AAA to start and all he did was go five innings, strike out seven and give up two runs and pick up a win.

AA- Trenton Thunder
Trenton lost two out of three to Portland then split a weekend series vs Binghamton. They are tied for second in the divison just 1.5 games behind Binghamton.
Player of the Week- Tony Renda
The acquisition from the Nationals had himself quite a week. Renda played in six games and collected two or more hits in every single one. He his hitting .382 in his last 10 games and has raised his average up to .281
Runner Up- Ali Castillo
Castillo had a three RBI game vs Binghamton and another mutli hit game against them. The Thunder have seen a lot of players promoted and so offense has been hard to come by.
Pitcher of the Week- Brady Lail
Lail is going to be among the list of players going up from AA to AAA very soon. On Saturday night, Lail tossed a complete game two-hit shutout. He’s 4-1 with a 1.91 ERA in his last 10 starts and has a WHIP this season of 1.09.
Runner Up- Caleb Smith
Smith got a hard luck no decision in Trenton’s 17 inning loss on Thursday. Smith went seven strong only giving up two hits and a run.

A- Tampa Yankees
Tampa had three games rained out and played two doubleheaders. Rough week. Tampa sits five games out of the division.
Hitter of the Week- Dustin Fowler
All the guy does is rake. Fowler had a couple multi-hit games this week. In 29 games, he’s hitting .304, although he has just three extra base hits since joining Tampa.
Runner Up- Dante Bichette
Bichette has had a miserable season, putting up just one homer in 87 games and hitting .220. Bichette did get two multi-hit games this week and is hitting .250 in his last 10 games.
Pitcher Of The Week- Dietrich Enns
Enns got called up from the Gulf Coast League and has been nothing but nails. Enns pitched four innings and struck out seven while giving up two hits. He has a 0.39 ERA in six games between the two levels.
Runner Up- Giovanny Gallegos
Gallegos picked up Tampa’s other win this week with 2.2 innings of shutout relief striking out three and giving up two hits. He’s 3-1 with a 1.21 ERA out of Tampa’s bullpen this year.

A- Charleston
Charleston went 2-5 this week and find themselves dead last in their division.
Hitter of the week- Jorge Mateo
Get this kid to Tampa already. Mateo is one of the untouchable four prospects the Yankees have and Mateo is crushing it right now. He’s had at least one hit in nine straight games, hitting .364 and stealing 10 bases. He’s stolen 68 in 89 games.
Runner Up- Isaias Tejeda
Tejada picked up three mutli-hit games for Charleston. Tejeda is also raking over his last 10, hitting .351 during that time.
Pitcher of The Week- Matt Wotherspoon
Wotherspoon was the lone starter to pick up a win for Charleston this week. He went six innings, giving up two runs and striking out nine. He now has 70 k’s in 68 innings.
Runner Up- Andre Del Bosque
Del Bosque pitched 3.1 shutout innings of relief this week. He walked three but he struck out four as he continues to find his way in the River Dog bullpen

A- Staten Island Yankees
It was a rough week for the Baby Bombers. They went 2-5 but are still tied with Brooklyn in the division.
Hitter of The Week- Junior Valera
Valera drove in five runs and a had a hit in every game except for one. The 22 year old is hitting .375 in his last ten games and is tied for the lead in RBI on team and is second in average.
Pitcher of the Week- Kolton Mahoney
Mahoney picked up a no-decision this week but was solid again giving up a run over six innings. It his second start in a row going six after being put into the rotation

A- Pulaski
Pulaski went 4-3 this week and are tied at the top of their divison.
Hitter of the Week- Austin Afenir. This year’s 25th round pick is off to quite a start in Pulaski. Afenir is hitting .327 with 17 RBI. He had a hit in every game this week.
Pitcher Of The Week-Nestor Cortes. Cortes in six games has a 0.81 ERA. He struck out 34 in 33.1 innings and opponents are hitting just .190 against him this season.

Gulf Coast League
Team one had every single game rained out this week. Team two managed to get four games in and went 1-3.
Hitter of The Week- Renzo Martini
Martini has reached as high as Staten Island in his career but now finds himself back in the GCL and is tearing it up. He hit his first homer this week and is hitting .429 over his last ten games.
Pitcher- Cory Jordan
Jordan picked up the GCL’s lone win this week pitching three solid innings of relief, striking out three and giving up just one hit. Deandre’s little brother has 14 strikeouts in 11 innings.

Dominican Summer League
DSL team one is just two games out of their division behind the Giants after going 5-1 this week. Diego Castillo picked up five RBI this week. Ricardo Ferreira picked up eight hits. Frecier Perez and Yostty Vargas pitched a combined five hit shutout of the Dodgers.
DSL team two went 4-2 this week and sit in third place six games out of the division. Miguel Flames is on a six game hitting streak and is hitting .351 over his past ten games. Jose Polonia has driven in a run in seven straight. Rafael Lara struck out seven games in 4.2 innings. Miguel Yajure pitched four shutout innings in his start.
