Let’s face it. We all miss the captain and this season has been a little weird without him in the lineup. Derek Jeter has basically been quiet and kept to himself. Something you had to see him probably do. The Players Tribune website has been an interesting read since it’s launch and I’m sure you’ll see Jeter start to do more and more things. Could one of those things be coming back to the New York Yankees in some way?
Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times caught up with the Steinbrenner family, and one of the things they spoke about was the former captain of the Yankees.
"At some point, the Yankees expect to add Jeter, who retired as a player after last season after a 20-year career, as another key employee.“He will be, I have no doubt,” Hal Steinbrenner said. “He lives here in Tampa. . . . I think he’s just trying to relax for a year. God knows he earned it. It’s a good relationship and I have no doubt he’ll be involved in whatever way he wants to be involved.”Jeter, though, has said he would be interested in owning his own team. Hal Steinbrenner said he would be a tough foe.“He’d be a lot of a competitor, especially if he was in our league,” he said. “We’ll see. That would be great. He’d be a great owner, no doubt about it.”"
The Steinbrenners are into a lot of things, not just the Yankees. They have a diverse portfolio of assets and Jeter being the business man that he has become knows this. The relationship could be beneficial for both sides.
I wouldn’t be surprised if next spring we are talking about Jeter as a special advisor or having some sort of position within the organization.
