Charleston RiverDogs Donate Profits From Game To City Fund

New York Yankees Single-A affiliate, the Charleston RiverDogs, had a game scheduled Thursday night against the West Virginia Power. Just a day after the mass-shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, a game was the last thing on everyone’s minds. However, with a good cause to support their decision, the RiverDogs decided to proceed with the game, and do what they could to help support those of their town.

They had to first consult with Charleston officials and law enforcement before deciding to carry out the game. After granted permission, RiverDogs GM Dave Echols spoke out on their decision to play just a day after the tragedy. “We feel it is our duty not to let the acts of one radical human being dictate our live”, and with that came great support from the fans. With any money made from the game, the RiverDogs would donate it to the Mother Emmanuel Hope Fund, established by Charleston in response to the shooting. Echols went on to say the following, “We understand the donation is a small gesture during this terrible time; one for the families of the victims, the church family, and the entire community,”
