And with the 30th overall selection in the 2015 Draft (thank you Mr. David Robertson), the New York Yankees select Kyle Holder, a SS out of the University of San Diego.

Why? Just why?

The Yankees could have taken another great pitcher in Kyle Funkhouser out of the University of Louisville, but instead elected to sign Kyle Holder, a 6’4″ shortstop out of the University of San Diego.

Yes, many scouts considered Holder to be the best defensive shortstop in the draft, and yes, he is equipped with a strong throwing arm and an above-average range, but his bat is what concerns me. MLB.com’s scouting report literally said “power is never going to be a part of his game.”

In my opinion the Yankees missed out on this selection, and turned David Robertson into Stephen Drew 2.0.

I hope by all means I’m wrong, but you can’t rule out the possibility of Holder electing to head back to the University of San Diego for his senior year instead of signing with the Yankees.

I guess time will tell.
