Yankees Rumors: Team Is ‘Not Looking’ to Trade for Cole Hamels

If you thought the New York Yankees were heading into full panic mode and planned on giving up their top prospects to acquire Cole Hamels after placing Masahiro Tanaka on the 15-day DL, you’re dead wrong.

According to CBS Sports MLB Insider Jon Heyman, the Yankees camp shot down the rumor that New York is contemplating a trade for Philadelphia’s ace Cole Hamels in lieu of Tanaka’s injury. One person inside the Yankees organization reportedly went as far as saying that the team is ‘Not looking’ in terms of starting pitching at all.  Also, according to Heyman, another higher-up in the Yankees organization wondered whether Hamels is still a true ‘ace’, or simply just a big name southpaw at this point.

That said, it leaves me to believe the the absent minded GM Ruben Amaro Jr. was probably fabricating the Yankees interest in Cole Hamels this whole time, as it would drive up the 31-year old’s return in other potential deals with teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers or Boston Red Sox.

Hamels is currently 1-2 with a 3.19 ERA through his first five start of 2015. His next start is Saturday at 4:10 pm v. Dan Haren and the Miami Marlins.
