On this episode of the Yanks Go Yard Series Preview Show, brought to you by KNODA.com, I started off the show by talking about the two decisions that the New York Yankees made with their roster on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, Joe Girardi announced that New York would not go with one closer and would play the matchups with Andrew Miller and Dellin Betances. Then, on Saturday, after the Yankees final Spring Training game against the Nationals, New York made the decision to DFA Austin Romine and make John Ryan Murphy the backup catcher.

Now, the Yankees get set to begin their 2015 season tomorrow afternoon when they face the Toronto Blue Jays. When you talk about Toronto, the offense comes first. Toronto hit 35 homers this spring, which was second in the American League behind the Baltimore Orioles. Jose Bautista and new third baseman Josh Donaldson each had six home runs.

To preview this series against the Blue Jays at Yankee Stadium, I spoke with Shaun Doyle, the co-editor at Jays Journal and host of the Jays Nest Podcast. To begin our conversation, we talked about the Jays last two spring training games in Montreal, the signing of lefty Felix Doubront to a minor league deal, and an introduction to their new starting second baseman, Devon Travis.

Here are some of the other topics we discussed:

  •  Does the success of the exhibition games in Montreal show that the city is ready to have another baseball team?
  • The high amount of rookies on Toronto’s Opening Day roster
  • Will Daniel Norris or Aaron Sanchez eventually end up in the bullpen?
  • Impressions from Spring Training in Dunedin
  • 2015 an important year for Drew Hutchison (Monday’s Toronto starter)
  • Hutchison making history as the Opening Day starter
  • Masahiro Tanaka’s (Monday’s Yankees starter) bringing a new approach to the mound?
  • R.A. Dickey (Tuesday’s Toronto starter) working on his command
  • Michael Pineda (Tuesday’s Yankees starter) coming into the season strong after only one walk this spring.
  • Pineda dominant vs. Toronto last year, despite an 0-2 record.
  • Getting to know Daniel Norris (Thursday’s Toronto starter)
  • Should Yankees fans have a ton of expectations for CC Sabathia this season?
  • Players To Watch (Toronto: Jose Bautista and Josh Donaldson, New York: Alex Rodriguez and Didi Gregorious)
  • The intangibles of Donaldson and Russell Martin
  • How many wins does Shaun think the Blue Jays will finish with this season?
