The Yankees got rid of Mick Kelleher and Kevin Long back in October and have yet to fill in any of those spots. Instead, GM Brian Cashman decided to focus more on trying to fix the roster first than figure out who would fill in at the coaching spots. One of the candidates was a coach on the staff back in the dynasty years of the late 1990’s.

According to CBS Sports Jon Heyman, Willie Randolph interviewed for a position.
yankees at some point interviewed yankee great willie randolph for a coaching job. terrific coach. would be great hire imo.

According to an MLB.com report, Randolph interviewed for the first base and infield coaching position formerly held by Kelleher.
Randolph was the Yankeees third base coach from 1994-2003 and then the bench coach under Joe Torre in 2004. After that, he managed the Mets from 2005-2008 and was the Orioles third base coach back in 2011.
I’m wondering why Randolph hasn’t been hired yet. He’s a lifelong Yankee. He’s been a coach for years, including with the Yankees. He coached manager Joe Girardi. If anyone who isn’t currently with the organization knows this team the best it’s Randolph.
Hopefully there’s an announcement in the not too distant future that he’s back.
