Could Troy Tulowitzki Become The Next Yankees Shortstop?

It is spelled loud and clear that the Yankees need to fill the shortstop role next season. Sure, no one can ever fill the void of Derek Jeter, but they sure can find someone who will be productive enough. It looks like it wouldn’t be so bad to try and make a trade with the Rockies, so the Yankees can acquire star shortstop Troy Tulowitzki.

The only problem is the Yankees are not interested in having to take on another large contract, and Tulowitzki is still owed $114 million over the next season years. The Yankees already are spending a lot of money on players like Alex Rodriguez and CC Sabathia. It looks like they will be attempting to do a whole lot of bargaining. Aside from his massive contract, the Rockies think they can or will fleece the Yankees newly-rebuilt farm system. For a guy that can barely stay on the field AND makes a ton of money? Something is going to have to give: the money or the prospects, but not both. If Colorado truly wants to remake their franchise by dealing Tulo and Carlos Gonzalez, they are going to have to take on some of the responsibility of having handed out two ludicrous contracts to players who have their own personal M*A*S*H units.

It also makes things complicated because the Rockies look like they will be very stingy in easily letting their star go. He is the face of the franchise, and they aren’t ready to throw him away. If this trade is unsuccessful, the Yankees aren’t completely out of options in the trade market. They have their eyes on other stars including Alexei Ramirez and Starlin Castro.
