RHP Luis Niebla (2-2, 2.76 ERA)

Luis Niebla was one of the pitchers I got to see while covering the Staten Island Yankees this past season. While the attention in the game I covered back on July 21 was around four no-hit innings by Justin Kamplain, Niebla struck out three batters and gave up one run on four hits in 3.1 innings of relief. The 23-year-old has been in the Yankees system since 2010 when he was signed as a free agent. He ended his season in low-A Charleston, where he went 3-1 with a 2.73 ERA in seven games and had a 1.32 ERA in five starts.

Niebla is pitching for the Caneros de Los Mochis team in the Mexican League. After a rough start to his November, he has responded with three very good outings. Over his last 14 innings, he has given up two runs (none earned) and struck out eight batters. The problem for the right-hander is the walks. He has three walks in three of his eight starts. He had just five walks for the Riverdogs this past season. Niebla is one of those unknown pitchers who could be on the rise when you consider he ended his season with the Riverdogs on a great note, throwing seven innings of three-hit ball and striking out a season-high seven batters.
