Yankees Can’t Panic After Red Sox Big Moves

Yes the Red Sox just added Pablo Sandoval and Hanley Ramirez. Yes there are rumors about the Sox going after Jon Lester and going after Cole Hamels to add to their rotation. If you are the Yankees you can’t make a panic move in response.

The Red Sox have had big name off-seasons before. Remember their acquisitions of Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez? That worked well for them didn’t it? They couldn’t wait to unload those contracts to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Yankees biggest move so far was signing Jose De Paula. Yes, not a big deal, but again, we aren’t even at Thanksgiving. They signed Brian McCann in late November last year. They didn’t sign Masahiro Tanaka until after that.

There are still the big three free agent pitchers out there. Chase Headley is out there (though they need to act fast). They could trade for an available bat.

The thing the Yankees can’t do is make a panic move and feel like they have to do something just because the Red Sox did. Those are usually the worst ones you can make and can really screw up your franchise. The Yankees have to think things through and continue to follow their plan as they try to get back to the playoffs.

The Giants routinely don’t do big moves in the off-season and yet they’ve won three of five championships. The Yankees can’t rush things just because the Red Sox have made the first move.
