Levine: Yankees Offseason To Have ‘Surprises’
The Yankees have been quiet so far this off-season, but that is to be expected at this point. However, team president Randy Levine hinted that they won’t end the off-season empty-handed.

While speaking to reporters at MLB’s owners meetings in Kansas City, Levine stated “we have to have some surprises”. He also added “we’ll have to wait and see. I think it’s a little early for any conclusions.”
What could this mean?
Since the offseason began, reports have been surfacing that the Yankees won’t get involved in the bidding for the three big name free agent pitchers (Jon Lester, Max Scherzer, and James Shields) That was the plan, anyway. Could this plan change? Quite possibly.
This week, there have been conflicting reports as to whether or not the Yankees could pursue Scherzer. Some say they will but others say they won’t. Who’s knows what the truth is?
If the Yankees are willing to change their plans for Scherzer, they could do the same for Jon Lester, who is drawing interest from their rivals, the Boston Red Sox. Was Levine referring to Lester or Scherzer? Was he even being genuine. At least now, after hearing these comments by Levine, the idea that the bombers will be somewhat active this offseason has legs.
