Young Starters Highlight The Staff

Well, well, well… look who actually has some youngsters. The Yankees starting rotation has a really nice core of youngsters. Team ace Masahiro Tanaka will be just 26 on Opening Day, and emerged as one of the best pitchers in baseball before going on the disabled list with a partially torn UCL. Yankees’ fans should be confident that their ace will be able to pitch the whole season without hurting himself again (If you need a case example look no further than Adam Wainwright). Michael Pineda proved that he could be an extremely dominant starter and will also be just 26 when the new season rolls around. Health is always the question when it comes to Big Mike, but after last season’s return from the DL, the young blood looked stronger than ever and he’s finally transformed from a thrower into a more well-rounded pitcher.

Shane Greene, the Yankees’ rookie standout who came up from the minor leagues to fill-in for ailing starters and performed far above expectations, will also be, yeah you guessed it, 26 on Opening Day although it’s not known at this point whether he will start the season in the majors. Ivan Nova won’t be returning from his rehab until May at the earliest, but he will be 28 in 2015 and will look to overcome his inconsistencies and finally live up to his ability. Yeah, there are finally young guns in the Bronx and there may be another coming along the way to help boost the staff. But, I’ll leave you in suspense and hold that off for later.
