After having this past season cut abruptly, and undergoing arthroscopic debridement on his right knee nearly three months ago, Yankees’ ace CC Sabathia is more than ready to return to the starting rotation in 2015.
Sabathia was only able to make eight starts this season, posting a 3-4 record, with an unusual 5.28 ERA. The Yankees knew there was something wrong, and therefore shut him down on May 10th.
After discovering his knee problem and getting cleared to start working out again, Sabathia has been working harder than ever. In the last month, he has been throwing off flat ground, and has been working out at Yankee Stadium at least twice a week. While February 20th is the set date for pitchers and catchers to report to spring training, Sabathia plans to get their earlier.
With the Yankees dealing with some question marks as to what their rotation is going to look like this upcoming season, it is going to be more than a lift to have Sabathia back. Hopefully, the Yankees can keep Masahiro Tanaka healthy, and get some long innings out of him. Although Brandon McCarthy and Chris Capuano are currently free agents, they were impressive when having to step up this season, and the Yankees could be just fine if they get them back as well.
“I think the rotation is going to be just fine,” CC Sabathia told Bryan Hoch of MLB.com. “My only goal is to stay healthy, and be able to start every fifth day.”
