Refsnyder came to the Yankees’ organization as a hot-hitting outfielder from the College World Series Champion Arizona Wildcats. Refsnyder was the MOP of the 2012 CWS. When the Yankees drafted him and moved him to second base, it came as a bit of a surprise. They took a baseball-ready outfielder and began the experiment at second base, a completely different position with completely different range and criteria. The gamble seems to have paid off.

Refsnyder absolutely scorched Double-A pitching in his debut for the Trenton Thunder. Still shaky with the glove, the Yankees had no choice but to promote him to Triple-A by mid-season. Refsnyder left Trenton with a .342/.385/.548 sash line and headed to SWB primed to show his moxie.

Refsnyder surely impressed everyone. He improved in the field as he cut his errors from nine over 58 games with Trenton to three over 64 games with the RailRiders. His fielding percentage improved by 20 points, so there were more opportunities at Triple-A. His hitting didn’t cease, either. Refsnyder hit .296 with 8 home runs and 33 RBI in his half season at SWB. Who knows how long Refsnyder will have to wait for his chance in the Bronx, but Yankees fans know they have something special.
