Game Overview

After having a well-deserved off day, the Yankees will begin a three-game series with the Houston Astros at 7:05 PM.

The Yankees are coming into this game with some great momentum, after coming off of a big series win against the Tampa Bay Rays on Sunday. Hiroki Kuroda had a good outing, as he only gave up two runs in 6.2 innings of work. He retired 17 batters in a row, and he even got to pick up his first victory in four starts. His slider also seemed to be effective, a pitch that he has had some trouble commanding in a few of his starts this year. Mark Teixeira picked up the offense by hitting his 20th home run of the year, which tied him for with Joe DiMaggio for 80th place on the all-time Yankees home run list.

Even though the Yankees are playing the last place Houston Astros, it still is an important series because they are playing at home. It has been reiterated numerous times that winning games at home is what will help increase the chances of the Yankees making the playoffs. Tonight will be the first game of a six-game home stand.
